Watersports on Koh Samui
Koh Samui's natural attractions have
been drawing an international crowd for years, but the island's beauty
does not end where the waves break upon the beach. Explore beyond the
surf, and you'll find a whole host of activities for water babes and
nature lovers alike.
Scuba Diving
The Gulf of Thailand,
with its rich diversity of marine life and favourable conditions, has
become one of the most popular diver training centres in the South East
Asia region. Along with Koh Tao, Koh Samui offers plentiful diving
opportunities for all levels. There are several reefs directly off the
island's shores, which are suitable for beginners, whilst more advanced
sites such as Sail Rock and the Ang Thong Marine Park are just 45
minutes away by speedboat.
Whether you're a seasoned diver looking
for some fun diving tours or a novice eager to blow your first bubbles,
we recommend a visit to 'Discovery Divers' a long-standing
professional outfit, whose office is located at the Amari Palm Reef
Resort in Chaweng.
Snorkeling
Vibrant coral reefs can be
found dotted around the island of Koh Samui and are easily explored
directly from the beach. If you don't have your own equipment, you
should be able to rent masks and snorkels from dive shops around the
island. To explore further a field, you can take a speedboat day trip to
either the National Marine Park or Koh Tao, where you will find some of
the clearest and richest waters in Asia.
Sea Kayaking
Samui's
shoreline and nearby islands harbour a wealth of marine, animal and
plant life. There are few better ways to explore the natural beauty of
the island's waters, than by sea kayak. For a few hours, or even a whole
day, escape to the calm seas and enjoy Samui from a distance as you
gently paddle your way through the warm clear waters.
Sailing
Sailing
fanatics are discovering the natural wonders of the 80-island
archipelago of Koh Samui. Whether it is with a windsurfer, a Hobie or
Nacra beach catamaran, or even a larger sailing boat, you can enjoy
anything from a few hours cruising to an overnight trip with our
recommended sailing clubs: "Samui Ocean Sports".
For those who
wish to enjoy the best of both worlds, SVH has prepared some "Sail &
Stay" offers. Firstly, you can spend a couple of nights on board a
comfortable yacht as it tours the National Marine Park. After that, you
can retreat to one of our luxury villas on Koh Samui, to enjoy some of
the best panoramic views on the island. For more information, please
